LEGISLATOR'S COURSE
In the context of a people to people exchange, learn about governance in a unique developing country that espouses socially based solutions and community centered ideals. Cuba is in the midst of rapid change and transformation.
Since President Obama’s announcement in December of 2014 to achieve détente between our two countries following nearly six decades of tension and isolation, the Cuban government has been thrust into the position of having to preserve its culture and societal achievements while simultaneously balancing the need for economic reforms for its people. The pendulum swung the other way when President Trump rolled back President Obama’s Executive Orders. Visit Cuban medical agencies, local government offices, educational institutions and environmental and energy policy bodies.
This trip will give local legislators and participants the opportunity to compare and contrast how two very different political and economic systems address and view the role of government in tackling various societal issues ranging from health care and education to environmental policy. Step into the time-warp that is Cuba and see a society that is attempting to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
