Dive & Reef Ecology Trip Itinerary

Day 1

Depart from Montreal, Canada and arrive at Jose Marti International Airport in Havana, Cuba. Check into your hotel and get your first taste of Havana by participating in a sunset tour of Old Havana with an experienced English-speaking guide from our affiliates at the Jose Marti Center. Enjoy dinner with your colleagues at a restaurant in Old Havana and evening of leisure.

Day 2

Day of cultural immersion in Havana. Meet with the Cuban people one on one while visiting museums, Plaza de Revolucion, El Morro fort, engage in discussions at the Malecon sea wall, catch a baseball game, check out the old cars in the beautiful squares, visit the Hemingway farm, explore vibrant Havana neighborhoods or spend your day in Old Havana.

Day 3

Depart for the outskirts of Havana for a morning two tank dive to the “Blue Circuit”, a series of dive sites outside the city famed for Atlantic wrecks and well-formed reefs. Thereafter, depart by bus along the northern coast of Cuba through Pinar Del Rio for Maria La Gorda.

Day 4

Participate in morning and afternoon dives from Playa Maria la Gorda. The area has over 50 world class dive sites including Spanish galleons as well as whale sharks crossing the region during their migrations. In the late afternoon, participate in hiking or bird watching with local Cubans at the National Park Guanahacabibes and learn about unique issues concerning forestry and national parks in Cuba.

Day 5

Participate in morning and afternoon dives from Playa Maria la Gorda and explore the Black Coral Valley. Explore its coral canyons, tunnels and caves. Later in the afternoon, explore nearby cenotes and above-ground cave with experienced local Cuban guides. In the evening,

participate in an optional night dive.

Day 6

 

Participate in morning and afternoon dives from Playa Las Tumbas and explore its wreck. Learn about the unique cave system of Cueva La Sorda and explore them with Cuban guides. Evening departure to Vinales.

Day 7

 

Explore the tobacco growing region of Vinales. Vinales has been blessed with some of the most fertile soil in the world allowing it to produce some of the richest and most flavorful tobacco in the world. Meet ordinary Cubans working in agriculture and have an opportunity to view small town life in Cuba. Observe the remarkable landscape on the road to Vinales marked with “mogotes”, the Cuban version of mesas and bluffs in the Southwest of the United States.\

Day 8

 

Bid farewell to Havana and leave for an afternoon departure to Jose Marti International Airport and catch flight to Montreal.
